So a crazy person went crazy and did a horrible thing. This is why we can’t have nice stuff. I kind of agree and disagree with everyone on this. I think the media should chill out and I think the blanket saturation coverage will probably be responsible for inspiring more people to do commit the same kind of act. I agree with the Person educated on this subject who expressed that opinion. This crazy is getting more coverage than a pregnant 16 year old on MTV. We all know everybody wants their 15 minutes and that’s why 15 year olds are getting pregnant to be on TV. So this could be like that, only a million times more horrifying.  At the same time, I watched 3 hours of coverage yesterday and now I want to buy some electric coffee mug buffers and a nacho sandwich made out of pizzas. So I got some quality time with some advertisers and that is the business that TV is in. This is not new. If it wasn’t on tv, there would be a kid on a corner with a bag of news papers shouting “Bonkers Batman Blaster calls himself ‘Joker’ read all about it.” And we would.

I also think we should have better gun control. At the same time, there are situations when there may be a benefit to having a populace that is capable of blowing the head off a Godzilla from 200 paces. I was just about to write, ‘isn’t there a way we can come up with a sane, reasonable way to deal with weapons’; but then I remembered that that is not how we roll.

When extreme things happen we tend to want to ‘fix’ it. But we can’t really fix ‘us’. At least not completely.  I really feel I should point out, we’re not a country of “that guy”. Do you know how many of us didn’t walk into a movie theatre and start shooting this week? The rest of us. Nice job. So, as we yell at each other on twitter and facebook and CNN and FOX and MSNBC maybe we should just step back realize that there are times that we shouldn’t look at events as an opportunity. Sometimes things that  happen are just things that happen. Maybe there shouldn’t be a law. I think there already is a law isn’t there? He was a smart guy. His apartment looks like what Macaulay Kulken would have done in “Home Alone” if he was on meth.  This guy could have done this without guns. People are clever and unfortunately, they can be evil.

What will say is, I think maybe what just happened was the Nerds had their Altamont (It was a Rolling Stones Concert in 1969, marked the end of the 60’s and all it stood for, google it, you’re reading a blog for petes sake). It might not be, but I’m already hearing people saying that they are going to stop letting kids show up in costume at midnight movie screenings. Even if those kids are 35. As time goes on and we keep going over it and over it over it, Nerd Culture will be dragged through the mud with this crazy person. “He did dye his hair red, he did say he was The Joker, you know, from the movie. He killed those people at a Batman Movie. Did you see on the news that women brought her baby to the movie! What kind of person brings a baby to a movie?”

So parents, if you’re kid likes comic books and super hero movies, cancel his netflix, make sure he’s on the right drugs and whatever you do, make sure you put his action figures in a crucible. These things are the tools of….whatever.

I doubt anyone that is directly affected by these events will ever read this blog. If you do, I’m sorry for your loss. I hope you can put your lives together after this. I hope you find some peace.
